My son has been seeing a pediatric gastroenterologist for a few months about his picky eating habits. We ran the gamut - food tips, vitamin supplements, Boost, Pediasure, an adenoidectomy, you name it, and the kid's weight held steady. But slowly, my husband and I saw an increase in appetite, willingness to try new and nutritious foods, and more cooperation at the table, with the occassional request for 'more please'. Then last week the doctor walks in exclaiming that my son had put on one pound AND grew one inch taller. Incredible! I nearly cried.
I hope this growth is only the start of things to come. For the last few nights, my usually perfect sleeper has been waking at all hours from what I suspect are growth pains. Last night, we administered children's ibuprofen and he slept straight though. In the craziness that was this evening, we forgot to administer it, so we'll see how that plays out.
Dr. Sesi Ogumbi is the only pediatric gastroenterologist in SE Alabama. She is very knowledgeable, has excellent bedside manner, and seemed to take a genuine interest in my son - even calling on holidays to check on his progress. I enjoyed working with her and would highly recommend her.
